The Cortiuda aea lies within a compact and spectacular Pre-Pyrenean landscape, where limestone and conglomerate cliffs, rugged mountain ranges, river gorges and ancient paths come together within just a few kilometres. It forms a clearly defined geographical unit between the mountains and the valleys of the Segre and Rialb rivers.
The Serra d'Aubenç, the Roques del Corb and Sant Honorat stand out as major landmark, together with other ridges such as Roc de Rombau, Serra de les Canals, Sant Marc and Serra Negra de Carreu.
The Segre and Rialb rivers have deeply shape the landscap, creating steep elevation changes and gorges such as Forat de Buli.
The valleys are dotted with historic settlements including Peramola, Olian, Gavarra, Trago, Nuncarga and Cortiuda.
