The country itself appears on one side of the map. States and territories are clearly delineated and towns and cities are shown, with some indication of their size and administrative importance. Some displayed towns could have fewer than 10,000 inhabitants. Aboriginal land and reserves are named and/or delineated.
Motorways, main and secondary roads are displayed, as are many other roads and some tracks (especially for the interior and desert areas). Airports and some ferry routes are indicated for internal and international travel.
Terrain is shown using relief shading and major peaks are marked using spot heights. Desert areas are shown conspicuously, as are lakes and the country's waterways.
Many sites of interest are shown, such as cultural and historic sites, theme parks, sporting venues, beaches, viewpoints, trekking centres, national parks and nature reserves.
Insets show the major conurbations of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Brisbane, Darwin, Cairns and Hobart, displaying main approaches by road, airports, train stations, bus terminals, districts and tourist sites. No scale is indicated on these insets. Additional insets show Christmas Island and the Cocos Islands at 1:1,000,000 and Norfolk Island 1:750,000. Additional information is provided, such as a distance chart and a plan showing travel connections between main cities by coach, rail, air and ferry.
